The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Samuel Akoade over the alleged killing of his mother, Olufunke Akoade, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5pm in the Powerline area of Ore, where the woman was reportedly found dead at her residence.
According to the police, the deceased sustained deep machete wounds and was already dead when she was discovered.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying the suspect was currently in police custody.
Jimoh said operatives attached to the Ore Division were mobilised to the scene after receiving a report about the incident.
He said the officers secured the area and commenced preliminary investigations, adding that a machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered.
The police also photographed and documented the scene as part of their investigation.
According to the PPRO, the suspected assailant, who was initially identified only as Samuel, had fled before the arrival of the police.
He said sustained efforts by the police subsequently led to the arrest of Samuel Akoade, who was taken into custody for questioning and further investigation.
“The incident occurred on Sunday, 16th August 2026, when the command received a report that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence,” Jimoh said.
“Preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.”
Jimoh said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remained in police custody.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.
The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, as directing that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The police commissioner also directed that anyone found culpable should be brought to justice.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information about suspicious activities in their communities.
Jimoh reassured residents of the police command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining security across the state.
