The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man identified as Sunday Samuel over alleged cult-related activities in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area.
Police operatives also recovered a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone from the suspect.
The arrest was carried out at about 11:45 p.m. on August 7 after operatives of the Efon Division received credible intelligence about the suspect’s presence in the town.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, disclosed the development in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
According to Abutu, the intelligence prompted police operatives to commence an investigation, which subsequently led to Samuel’s arrest.
“Upon receipt of the information, operatives immediately commenced investigation. The investigation led to the suspect’s arrest. A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him,” the statement said.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Michael Falade, ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ado Ekiti for further investigation.
The command said the development formed part of ongoing efforts to prevent cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.
Falade assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted operations to address security threats.
The command also called on residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime.
“The commissioner assures residents that the command remains committed to preventing cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.
“The command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police, as discreet monitoring and security operations are ongoing,” Abutu said.
The latest arrest comes amid intensified security efforts in Ekiti State to tackle cult-related activities and other criminal offences through intelligence-led operations.
