The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man and his company over an alleged N7.819 million fraud involving the purported sale of two cars in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The EFCC Ibadan Zonal Directorate arraigned Adeoye Gabriel Adewale and his company, De Lukas Global Concept Limited, before Justice Olusola Adetujoye of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan.

The defendants were arraigned on Thursday, August 13, 2026, on a one-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion involving N7,819,000 belonging to Abdulrasaq Awotedo.

According to a release by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Monday, Adewale allegedly presented himself to Awotedo as a car dealer and collected the money from him for the purchase of two vehicles.

The anti-graft agency further alleged that the defendant used a fake car mart to convince the complainant and received the payment through the company’s First Bank account before allegedly converting the funds to his personal use.

The charge stated that Adewale and De Lukas Global Concept Limited, between October 6, 2021, and March 23, 2022, within the jurisdiction of the court, converted N7,819,000 belonging to Awotedo to their personal use.

The alleged offence, according to the commission, contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

When the charge was read to him in court, Adewale pleaded not guilty.

Following his plea, EFCC counsel, Sanusi Galandachi, asked the court to adjourn the case for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional centre.

However, defence counsel, A. Towolawi, told the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the judge to admit his client to bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Justice Adetujoye subsequently adjourned the matter for hearing of the bail application and ordered that Adewale be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
