The family of late Nollywood actress, Tope Osoba, has postponed her burial indefinitely, days after her death triggered controversy over the circumstances surrounding her final moments.
The family announced the decision in a statement posted on the actress’ official Instagram page on Wednesday, saying the burial would not proceed as earlier planned.
According to the family, the postponement was necessary to allow for further arrangements and the resolution of outstanding matters.
The decision came after a candlelight and artists’ night organised in honour of the 40-year-old actress.
“With deep sadness, the family of Tope Osoba wishes to inform friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers that the burial ceremony has been POSTPONED until further notice,” the statement read.
The family appealed for understanding and urged the public to continue offering prayers and support during what it described as a difficult and sensitive period.
It said a new burial date and venue would be announced through its official channels after the necessary matters had been resolved.
The family also thanked those who attended the candlelight and artists’ night, as well as friends, colleagues, fans and other sympathisers who have continued to support them following Osoba’s death.
Osoba died on August 5 at the age of 40, with details surrounding her death remaining unclear.
Her death has generated significant public attention following differing accounts of her final moments and allegations involving her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko.
The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) on Tuesday announced that it had commenced a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death.
The church said the investigation was aimed at examining the issues surrounding her death amid growing public concern.
