The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Yoruba Nollywood actress, Temitope Osoba, who passed away at the age of 40.
News of her death emerged on Wednesday after fellow actor Alesh Sanni announced the tragic development in an emotional post shared on his Instagram page.
Sanni, visibly devastated by the loss, said he had been unable to sleep since hearing the news, describing Osoba as a cherished sister and colleague with whom he shared many memorable moments.
“Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really dunno what to say mehn, gosh,” he wrote.
Another actress, Adeyemo Seilat, also paid tribute to the late film star on Instagram, lamenting the death of someone she described as still young.
“Sigh! I hate to hear about the death of young people. Life is vanity! Rest in peace Tope Osoba. May you find eternal rest,” she wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death had not been made public, with neither her family nor associates disclosing the cause.
The actress’ passing comes nearly two years after she publicly revealed her battle with cancer, a health challenge that prompted her to seek financial assistance from the public for treatment.
Following her recovery, Osoba made an emotional return to the movie industry in August 2025, describing her survival as a transformative experience that changed her outlook on life and career.
In a message announcing her comeback, she told fans that her struggle with cancer had reshaped and strengthened her, adding that she was returning with renewed passion and purpose.
She said the experience inspired her to dedicate herself to promoting cancer awareness, encouraging survivors, and supporting people facing similar health challenges.
Osoba also expressed gratitude to her management team for standing by her throughout her treatment and recovery.
At the time, she disclosed that she was available for movie roles, endorsement deals, and event appearances as she sought to rebuild her acting career.
