The family of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba has dismissed widespread reports circulating online about the circumstances surrounding her death, describing them as false and unauthorised.
In a statement posted on the actress’s official Instagram page on Thursday, the Awonuga/Osoba family expressed concern over what it called the growing spread of misinformation across social media platforms and blogs since news of her passing emerged.
The family said it was deeply distressed by the circulation of unverified claims, stressing that the reports were speculative and did not reflect the true circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death.
“At this difficult time, we wish to categorically state that the numerous claims circulating on social media and various blogs regarding the circumstances surrounding her death are false, speculative, and entirely unauthorised,” the statement read.
Appealing for restraint, the family urged members of the public to avoid sharing or amplifying unverified information, noting that such reports only compound the emotional pain they are experiencing.
“We respectfully urge the public to refrain from sharing or promoting misinformation that only adds to the pain our family is already enduring,” it stated.
The family also requested privacy as they mourn the actress, asking the public to allow them the space to grieve without being subjected to rumours and sensational narratives.
“We kindly ask that everyone allow us the dignity, privacy, and time to grieve without the burden of unfounded rumours and sensational narratives,” the statement added.
According to the family, any verified information concerning Osoba’s death will be released exclusively through official family channels and authorised representatives.
It urged journalists, bloggers and the public to rely only on official statements and disregard unconfirmed reports circulating online.
The family also expressed gratitude for the prayers, sympathy and support received from fans, colleagues and well-wishers, while appealing for continued respect for the family’s privacy as they mourn the late actress.
