Veteran Nigerian musician and evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has celebrated fellow music legend Sunday Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), as he turns 80 on September 22, 2026.
Obey described the milestone as a testament to God’s uncommon grace and faithfulness, reflecting on the decades of music, creativity and cultural influence that have defined KSA’s career.
In a goodwill message titled “KSA at 80: Celebrating Grace, Legacy & Brotherhood,” the Chief Commander expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the music icon through more than six decades in the entertainment industry.
He also praised King Sunny Ade’s enduring relevance, noting that his musical creativity and excellence had crossed geographical boundaries, inspired generations of performers, and earned admiration from music lovers worldwide.
According to Obey, KSA’s journey has passed through different seasons in the constantly changing music industry, with numerous achievements and accomplishments that pushed the boundaries of Nigerian music.
He attributed the octogenarian’s longevity and success largely to divine grace.
“Looking back, we have every reason to say, ‘Ebenezer! Thus far the Lord has helped us,’” Obey stated, highlighting the role of faith in sustaining their musical journeys.
The veteran musician congratulated King Sunny Ade on attaining the historic age of 80 and prayed for renewed strength, divine preservation, greater accomplishments and many more fruitful years.
Obey also reflected on his own long musical journey alongside KSA, describing longevity, relevance and lasting impact as blessings that should not be taken for granted.
“May the grace that has sustained us these many decades continue to keep us. Indeed, this is an uncommon grace, and we must never take it for granted,” he said.
The music legend concluded his message with a warm expression of brotherhood, formally welcoming King Sunny Ade into what he described as the “Octogenarian fold.”
King Sunny Ade, one of Nigeria’s most internationally recognised musicians, has remained a major figure in the development and global promotion of juju music.
His 80th birthday marks another milestone in a career that has spanned generations and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s musical heritage.
