Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), months after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mimiko, who governed Ondo State between 2009 and 2017, announced his defection on Thursday during an event held at the APC Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.

The former governor said his decision to align with the APC was motivated by his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political advancement.

He also declared support for the second-term ambition of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the gathering, Mimiko admitted that Nigerians were currently facing economic difficulties but maintained that the reforms and programmes introduced by the Tinubu administration were aimed at laying a sustainable foundation for long-term national growth and stability.

Reacting to the development, Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described Mimiko’s entry into the party as a major boost for the APC in the state.

Babatunde commended the former governor for his leadership record and contributions to governance and development in Ondo State and across the country, noting that the party leadership and the state government were delighted to receive him into the APC fold.
