Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has praised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Osun State Police Command for the arrest of suspected political thug, Saheed Kareem Tanfeani, describing the development as a positive step in tackling violence in the state.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.
Tanfeani is accused of involvement in the killing of Ezekiel Olapade, who was allegedly attacked near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat last Sunday.
While welcoming the arrest, Adeleke urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend other suspects declared wanted over alleged involvement in violent activities across the state.
Among those he listed are Asiri Eniba, Delaw, Ojuyobo, Aleba, Lucifer, Lasisi and several others allegedly linked to political violence.
The governor also called for a comprehensive investigation into the case and the diligent prosecution of the arrested suspect to ensure justice is served.
Adeleke reiterated his earlier demand for changes in the leadership of the Osun State Police Command’s anti-cultism unit, expressing concerns over the continued leadership of the squad by its current commander, identified as Eluku.
According to the governor, the officer’s continued oversight of the unit remains a source of concern because of alleged associations with some individuals suspected of involvement in political thuggery.
Reacting to the latest arrest, Adeleke said the government would closely monitor the police’s handling of the case to determine its commitment to enforcing the law and protecting residents.
“The arrest of Saheed and Akilapa is a good development. We are watching to see how far the police will prove its readiness to enforce the law and secure our people. For now, we thank the IGP, the Deputy Inspector General of Police and others who made this possible,” the governor said.
The governor maintained that sustained law enforcement efforts and the arrest of all wanted suspects would help strengthen public confidence in the state’s security architecture and reinforce the fight against political violence.
