The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and announced dates for the conduct of the re-sit examination for candidates with deficiencies in key subjects.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani.

According to the council, 186,291 candidates registered for the 2026 BECE, which was conducted between April 20 and April 30 across 12 subjects.

NECO said the release of the results followed the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee meeting held at its headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The committee, chaired by the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the release of the examination results.

David also disclosed that the committee approved July 22 and July 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE re-sit examination.

She explained that the re-sit exercise would be limited to candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

According to her, the initiative is designed to provide affected candidates with another opportunity to satisfy the requirements for progression into senior secondary education.

“The BECE Re-sit examination is conducted for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English Studies or both,” David said.

She added that the exercise would enable candidates to address deficiencies in the affected subjects and obtain the certification required for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without having to repeat an entire academic year.

The Basic Education Certificate Examination is conducted annually by NECO for pupils completing Nigeria’s nine-year Basic Education programme.

The examination serves as the qualifying assessment for admission and placement into senior secondary schools across the country.

With the release of the 2026 results and the scheduling of the re-sit examination, candidates who fell short in the core subjects of Mathematics and English Studies have been offered a fresh opportunity to meet the academic requirements for advancement to the next stage of their education.
