Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has denied allegations that he accepted payments from All Progressives Congress (APC) proxies to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Ogundoyin dismissed the claims as politically motivated fabrications designed to tarnish his reputation and destabilise the state government.

In a recent statement, the Speaker clarified that no money changed hands during any recent meetings.

He asserted that while he was presented with “juicy offers”, he rejected them immediately to maintain his integrity and loyalty to the governor and the people of Oyo State.

“Nothing can sway my conscience or weaken my loyalty to the governor, the party, and the people we were elected to serve,” Ogundoyin said.

Addressing rumours regarding his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Ogundoyin explained that the meeting was purely consultative.

He stated the visit, which took place weeks ago, was intended to seek the monarch’s traditional blessings regarding his future governorship ambitions.

However, former Speaker Adeolu Adeleke has challenged Ogundoyin to substantiate his claims.

Adeleke urged the incumbent to move beyond circulating rumours and explicitly name the individuals who allegedly attempted to bribe him or participated in discussions regarding the purported impeachment in Lagos.

Adeleke also highlighted perceived inconsistencies in Ogundoyin’s accounts, noting discrepancies between the speaker’s remarks at a recent stakeholders’ meeting and a subsequent press release.

He further questioned the validity of linking the Olubadan and former First Lady, Chief Florence Ajimobi, to any alleged conspiracy.

Warning that the credibility of the Speaker’s office is at stake, Adeleke called for full disclosure, suggesting that failing to provide names could lead to lasting historical judgment against the current leadership.
