Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, stating that the state is among the few in Nigeria fully implementing the approved national minimum wage and related salary adjustments.

Adeleke made the assertion on Wednesday while declaring open the National Retreat of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The governor said his administration has prioritised the wellbeing of public servants by creating a conducive work environment and ensuring policies aimed at improving their productivity and welfare.

According to him, Osun has continued to implement the national minimum wage for its workforce, including consequential adjustments for eligible employees, while also taking steps to address challenges faced by retirees.

He noted that regular pension payments have been sustained, alongside efforts to reduce inherited pension liabilities and other outstanding obligations owed to retirees.

“We have maintained a cordial relationship with organised labour and kept open channels of communication for conflict resolution. Osun State is one of the few states implementing the approved national minimum wage. This also covers consequential adjustments for eligible workers in the state,” Adeleke said.

The governor added that deserving civil servants have continued to benefit from promotions and career advancement opportunities under his administration.

“We have also consistently approved and implemented promotions and career progression opportunities for deserving public servants. I personally ensured that the dignity of labour is upheld,” he stated.

Speaking on pensioners’ welfare, Adeleke said his government has taken deliberate measures to improve their living conditions through regular pension payments and substantial disbursements towards outstanding arrears.

“For our pensioners, we have taken deliberate steps to improve their welfare. We pay monthly pensions regularly. Our government has made substantial payments towards inherited pension arrears and outstanding obligations,” he added.

Beyond labour-related issues, the governor highlighted investments made by his administration in critical sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and local economic development.

He said the projects were designed not only to improve living standards across the state but also to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.

“These investments not only improve the quality of life of our people but also create a more enabling environment for economic growth and job creation,” Adeleke said.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council for selecting Osun as the venue for the 2026 retreat, describing the decision as a recognition of his administration’s commitment to labour-friendly policies.

He said the choice of Osun reflected confidence in a government that places workers’ welfare and harmonious labour relations at the centre of governance.

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council serves as the official platform for consultation and negotiation between the Nigerian government and organised labour. The body comprises representatives of government institutions and eight public service trade unions.
