The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, handled 231 cases involving sexual and gender-based violence, domestic violence and child protection between January and September 2026, the command has disclosed.
The figures were released on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Samuel Olubanjo Opebiyi, on behalf of the State Commandant, Augustine Padonu.
Child placement accounted for the highest number of cases, with 78 incidents, followed by child neglect with 27 cases and denial of child access with 22.
Other major categories included child custody, with 20 cases; domestic violence, 18; and physical assault, 15.
The command also recorded 13 rape cases, 10 cases of child abduction and seven cases of child abuse during the nine-month period.
Additional cases handled by the NSCDC involved sexual abuse, child defilement, cyberbullying and threats to life, among other incidents.
Monthly figures showed that January recorded the highest number of cases at 35, while March and September each recorded 32 cases. August had the lowest monthly figure, with 15 cases.
Padonu urged residents to report suspected cases of abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation promptly, stressing that early intervention could help protect victims and prevent further harm.
He also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, social welfare institutions and community leaders in responding to cases involving vulnerable persons.
The commandant further appealed to members of the public to protect survivors’ privacy and treat victims with dignity, particularly children involved in abuse and violence cases.
He cautioned against victim-blaming, stressing the need for a supportive environment that encourages survivors and witnesses to report incidents.
NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons in Oyo State and ensuring that reported cases are investigated and addressed in accordance with the law.
