Governor Seyi Makinde has called on his loyalists, political associates and members of the ruling party in Oyo State to remain united and avoid actions capable of undermining their collective political goals ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor stressed that personal ambitions must not be allowed to divide the political structure that has sustained his administration since 2019, urging stakeholders to prioritise the continued development of the state.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, Makinde made the appeal on Friday during a dinner hosted for political stakeholders and appointees at his Kolapo Ishola residence in Ibadan.

Makinde noted that only a limited number of elective positions would be available during the 2027 general elections compared to the state’s population of about 10 million residents.

“Apart from the positions at the local government levels, the elective positions for the 2027 general elections are 51. So these posts can only be taken by a few people who would need the generality of the people to succeed,” the governor said.

He appealed to party leaders, stakeholders, aspirants and candidates seeking elective offices in 2027 to work together in order to sustain the achievements recorded by his administration over the past years.

The governor stated that residents of Oyo State expected his administration and political structure to produce credible individuals capable of continuing the developmental strides of the current government after his tenure.

“It is only through continued unity and the success of the team that the people of the state can continue to reap the benefits of the administration.

“So, I just want to appeal that this team must be together, and it must continue the good work we have started for the benefit of the people of Oyo State,” he added.

Those present at the dinner included Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Debo Ogundoyin, members of the state executive council, political appointees and party leaders.

Also in attendance was Adedeji Olajide, who represents Ibadan South-West/Ibadan North-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
