The Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State has commenced the distribution of subsidised food commodities to workers in the state as part of measures to ease economic pressure ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Chairman of the corporation, Akeugberu Akeugbagold, disclosed this during the unveiling of the distribution exercise held at the corporation’s premises in Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the initiative was designed to support workers and enable them celebrate the festive season with less financial burden.
Speaking through the coordinating head of the corporation, Tunde Oladejo, Akeugbagold said more than ₦120 million was spent on procuring the food items for the exercise.
He noted that the programme forms part of the welfare initiatives of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde aimed at improving the living conditions of workers in the state.
The subsidised commodities made available to interested workers include bags of rice, Kings vegetable oil and rams.
Akeugbagold explained that beneficiaries would repay the cost of the items through deductions from their salaries over a three-month period beginning in July 2026.
He added that the initiative reflects the commitment of the state government to workers’ welfare and improving access to food, particularly during festive periods.
The ACCOS chairman also urged beneficiaries to continue supporting the programmes and policies of the state government, assuring them that the administration would sustain people-focused initiatives across the state.
