The Federal Government has secured approximately 150 convictions in the ongoing mass trial of terrorism suspects being conducted at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has disclosed.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the court premises, Fagbemi said the latest phase of the mass trial exercise commenced on Monday and is being handled simultaneously by 10 judges of the Federal High Court.

He noted that the proceedings would continue until Thursday.

According to the minister, the exercise recorded about 160 trials on its opening day, leading to roughly 150 convictions.

“Yesterday, we had about 160 trials. I think about 150 convictions,” Fagbemi stated.

He explained that the process remained ongoing, with around 300 additional cases brought before the courts on Tuesday, while another 84 cases were expected to be concluded.

“Whatever we can do, or wherever we stop today, we’ll continue tomorrow and also on Thursday. So it’s still ongoing,” he said.

Fagbemi urged Nigerians to remain patient as the authorities continue the large-scale prosecution process, describing it as part of the federal government’s efforts to strengthen justice delivery, uphold accountability and reinforce the rule of law.

The latest proceedings follow an earlier round of terrorism-related trials held between April 7 and April 10, during which no fewer than 500 suspected terrorists were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The mass trial programme forms part of the federal government’s broader strategy to address the growing backlog of terrorism cases and speed up the administration of justice in matters linked to insurgency and organised armed criminal activities across the country.

Authorities say the initiative is aimed at ensuring that terrorism-related offences are prosecuted efficiently while maintaining legal accountability for individuals accused of involvement in violent extremist and criminal networks.
