President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a cabinet reshuffle, replacing the ministers of finance and housing to enhance the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”.
The decision, communicated via a memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, aims to strengthen governance delivery and economic impact.
Under the new directive, Wale Edun has been relieved of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
He will be succeeded by Taiwo Oyedele, who transitions into the role from his previous position as Minister of State for the ministry.
In a parallel move, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will exit as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The President has named Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the minister-designate for the portfolio. Dangiwa is mandated to oversee the ministry until Darma’s formal confirmation and assumption of office.
According to a statement by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser to the SGF on Media and Publicity, all handover processes must be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume stated the reshuffle is designed to “strengthen cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieve more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians.”
The president exercised his constitutional authority under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution to effect these changes.
While expressing appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service, Akume noted that the administration will continue to reinvigorate the government to meet its policy objectives.
