On Wednesday, armed police blocked former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel’s Ijebu-Ode home, forcing a planned political rally to a halt.

The heavy security presence, which included an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), caused significant tension in the Obanta Club area of the Government Reserved Area (GRA).

The deployment halted a “BATOGD Community Assessment and Review” tour.

BATOGD, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-Otunba Gbenga Daniel Movement, is a grassroots platform supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambitions and Daniel’s reported bid for the Senate in 2027.

An aide to Daniel, who currently represents the Ogun East Senatorial District, confirmed that officers blocked supporters from accessing the venue.

“Police stormed the Obanta Club area and blocked access to OGD’s residence to stop the BATOGD… tour scheduled for today,” the aide stated.

The incident signals an escalation in the deepening political feud between Daniel and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Tensions rose earlier this week when Daniel was denied entry to a crucial All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial stakeholders’ meeting at Adeola Odutola Hall.

The conflict centres on the Ogun East Senate seat.

While Daniel seeks to maintain his position, Governor Abiodun is reportedly being positioned as a consensus candidate, a move that has fuelled the rivalry.

The former governor has previously accused the state government of using official apparatus to target his political interests.

Addressing his supporters following recent exclusions from party meetings, a frustrated Daniel warned that any decisions made in his absence would lack legitimacy.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said he would issue an official comment once he obtains full details of the deployment.
