Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has moved to reconstitute his administration for a second term, seeking the State House of Assembly’s approval to reappoint three commissioners and appoint 10 special advisers.

The request, contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, on Monday, came barely 10 days after Oyebanji was sworn in for another four-year tenure.

In the letter, the governor requested the screening and confirmation of Dayo Apata (SAN) as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice; Akintunde Oyebode as Commissioner for Finance; and Oyebanji Filani as Commissioner for Health and Human Services.

The three officials occupied the same portfolios during Oyebanji’s first term, making their proposed return a continuation of the administration’s leadership in three key areas.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, the appointments are aimed at constituting key components of the second-term administration early and maintaining continuity in critical sectors.

“The proposed appointments reflect the governor’s intention to constitute key components of his administration early and ensure continuity in critical sectors of governance,” the statement said.

Government also identified justice, finance and health as crucial portfolios for the effective take-off of the second-term administration, particularly against the backdrop of prevailing developments in the country.

The proposed appointments follow a series of administrative changes made by Oyebanji ahead of and shortly after the commencement of his second term.

On October 12, the governor dissolved the State Executive Council as part of the process of winding down his first-term administration.

However, the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff, Oyeniyi Adebayo, and Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode, were retained.

Oyebanji subsequently reappointed the three officials after his October 16 inauguration.

He also charged the SSG and Chief of Staff to bring their first-term experience to bear on service delivery in the new administration.

The governor had earlier approved appointments in power infrastructure, road infrastructure, airport matters and transportation, including technical advisers for power and roads, as well as a Director-General for the Ekiti State Transport Agency.

The latest request therefore represents another step in the gradual formation of Oyebanji’s second-term executive structure, with the Assembly expected to screen and consider the nominees.

Oyebanji was inaugurated for his second term on October 16, 2026, following his re-election in the June 20 governorship election.
