A dispatch rider was killed on Saturday in a multiple-vehicle road traffic accident involving two trucks at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the fatal crash in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

According to the agency, its Eagle Response Team responded promptly to the scene, where a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV and the dispatch rider were involved in the accident.

LASEMA said preliminary findings indicated that reckless driving and wrongful road use by the two truck drivers contributed to the crash.

The agency explained that the FAW truck hit the Iveco truck while both drivers were allegedly struggling for right of way.

The impact reportedly caused the Iveco truck to strike the dispatch rider from behind, which led to his death.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Okota Division evacuated the deceased’s remains and deposited them at a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.

Following the crash, the two trucks were removed from the main carriageway and taken to a designated layby to prevent further obstruction and restore the free flow of traffic along the corridor.

LASEMA said its Eagle Response Team and police personnel remained at the scene throughout the operation, which was successfully concluded.

The road was subsequently declared safe for motorists and other road users.

Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.

He also reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting all road users, particularly vulnerable road users such as dispatch riders and other motorcycle operators.

LASEMA urged commercial vehicle operators to avoid reckless driving, wrongful overtaking and dangerous competition for road space.

The agency stressed that road safety requires collective responsibility, warning that compliance with traffic regulations remains critical to preventing avoidable deaths on Lagos roads.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to prompt emergency response and collaboration with relevant agencies to protect lives and property across Lagos State.
