President Bola Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 presidential election, appointing former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General.

The composition of the council was announced on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy and Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication of the campaign council.

Tinubu will serve as chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen.

Yari, who is also a former senator representing Zamfara West, will coordinate the council’s operations as Director-General. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed secretary.

APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as deputy secretary and assistant secretary, respectively.

The council’s advisory body comprises former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande; veteran journalist and politician Segun Osoba; former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha; former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu; and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

The party also appointed key political figures to oversee its zonal campaign operations.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were named deputy director-generals for the southern and northern parts of the country.

They will work alongside Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau in coordinating activities across the two broad zones.

Former Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole was appointed Deputy Director-General for mobilisation, while Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration in the same capacity.

James Faleke, who played a major role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.

Faleke will work with zonal directors including Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori were appointed secretaries of the election planning directorate.

The legal directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala serving as deputies.

Other members include Attorney-General of the Federation Prince Lateef Fagbemi, former Katsina State governor Ibrahim Shema, Worgu Boms and Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh.

In the media and strategic communication directorate, Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris will serve as coordinating director alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka were appointed coordinating deputy directors, while Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Aderonke Ogunleye and Frederick Nwabufor will serve as coordinating secretaries.

Segun Dada, who occupied the same position during the 2022/2023 campaign, returns as Director of New Media, with Solomon Arowolo as secretary.

The council also appointed five spokespersons, led by Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work tirelessly towards securing the APC’s victory in the 2027 presidential election.

The president also directed leaders of the various directorates to engage other party members who were not formally listed but could make meaningful contributions to the campaign.

Onanuga quoted Tinubu as saying his administration had delivered on its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on the path of economic progress.

The president said the country was now “out of the dark tunnel” and moving towards the benefits of a prosperous economy.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu said.

He added: “Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”

The unveiling of the campaign council marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the ruling party expected to intensify its nationwide mobilisation and campaign activities in the months ahead.
