The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Yoruba actress, Temitope Osoba, and allegations involving her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko.
Osoba, 40, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, with reports surrounding her death generating widespread reactions and public concern.
Onadeko, a shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ, has been linked to allegations concerning the circumstances surrounding the actress’ death.
Reacting to the controversy, the church said it would not remain silent while its name continued to be associated with the allegations.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, Kayode Ajala, said in a statement that the development had become a matter of serious concern to the church, particularly because of its potential impact on the reputation of the denomination.
Ajala said the church had launched a discreet investigation to establish what transpired before Osoba’s death and determine whether anyone was culpable.
“As a church, we are already discreetly investigating the circumstances that led to the death of Temitope Osoba, and we wish to assure the general public that the Celestial Church of Christ would leave no stone unturned to unearth the truth, and to ensure that anyone found culpable in the death of Temitope Osoba is brought to justice,” the statement said.
The CCC also called on the police and other relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct their own investigation into the matter.
According to the church, it is prepared to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death are properly established and anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
“The Celestial Church of Christ is ready to work hand-in-hand with the relevant law enforcement agencies to ensure that all culprits are brought to book,” it added.
The church further clarified its position on practices allegedly associated with the controversy, stating that it does not support idolatry, black magic, cultism or the use of charms.
It described the allegations involving Onadeko as “quite embarrassing to the Celestial Church of Christ”, stressing that it would not fold its arms while the matter continued to attract public attention.
The CCC said its Pastor and Spiritual Head Worldwide, Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, had directed relevant internal structures to work towards uncovering the truth and ensuring that justice was served.
The church also warned that Onadeko could face disciplinary measures within the denomination as well as criminal prosecution if the allegations against him were established by the ongoing investigations.
“If the allegations against Prophet Itunu Onadeko of the Celestial Church of Christ are found to be true at the end of ongoing investigations, he would not only be made to face the internal sanctions of the church, but he would also be made to face the full length of the law,” the statement said.
The development comes amid continuing public interest in the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death, with the church seeking to distance its institutional identity from any conduct that may be established to have occurred outside its doctrine and rules.
