Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, warning of possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
The singer made the appeal in a social media post addressed to Trump on Tuesday, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election.
Davido urged the US president and relevant international stakeholders to encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that the outcome of the election reflects the wishes of the electorate.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he wrote.
The singer stressed that the people of Osun State should be allowed to participate in the election without fear, calling for peace, transparency and a credible electoral process.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido added.
The development followed an earlier statement by the singer in which he said he would directly seek Trump’s intervention if he became dissatisfied with the conduct of the election.
Davido had said he would tag the US president on social media and, if necessary, take his concerns to the White House.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us,’” he said.
The singer maintained that his comments should not be dismissed as a joke, expressing confidence that his concerns would eventually reach the US president.
Davido also called on political actors and other stakeholders involved in the Osun election to respect the democratic rights of residents and allow them to freely choose their governor.
“Leave Osun alone, oo, leave it,” he said.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office, is among the candidates contesting the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
