A brief moment of tension occurred at a polling unit in Iyin-Ekiti on Saturday during the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election after operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were reportedly forced to leave the area by voters.

The incident happened at Polling Unit 10, Ward B, where voting was underway when the anti-graft agency officials arrived to monitor alleged cases of vote-buying.

According to reports, the presence of the EFCC operatives triggered objections from some voters, who questioned the reason for their deployment to the polling unit and demanded that they leave immediately.

The voters reportedly insisted that there was no evidence of vote-buying at the location and challenged the officials’ presence, leading to a brief period of confusion at the polling centre.

Following the confrontation, the EFCC operatives withdrew from the area, allowing the electoral process to continue without further interruption.

Voting subsequently resumed peacefully, with no additional incidents reported at the polling unit.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of electoral malpractice during the Ekiti governorship election, with security and anti-corruption agencies monitoring the process across the state.
