The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has visited Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the recent attack and abduction incident that occurred in a community within the Ogbomoso axis in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.

During the visit, the IGP expressed deep concern over the incident and sympathised with families who lost loved ones in the attack, describing the development as tragic and unacceptable.

Disu was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, owing to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to border communities linked to Kwara State.

Also on the entourage was Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen school security and improve coordinated emergency response operations in vulnerable communities.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP held a high-level security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders during the visit.

The police chief received operational briefings on ongoing rescue operations, tactical deployments and security measures already activated across the affected communities.

Disu assured residents, parents and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering and tactical deployments aimed at ensuring the safe return of abducted victims and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

He condemned the incident as cruel and vowed that security agencies would spare no effort in restoring normalcy to the affected communities.

Disu further directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical and intelligence assets to reinforce ongoing operations in the area and adjoining forests believed to be under surveillance by security operatives.

The Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminality and ensuring the protection of schools, communities and citizens across the country.
