The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a partial closure of sections of the busy Ikorodu-Sagamu Road beginning Monday as reconstruction works intensify on critical portions of the highway.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to him, the temporary closure followed a directive by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, instructing the contractor, Arab Contractors, to immediately resume work on key sections of the road to ensure timely completion of the reconstruction project.
Komolafe explained that the affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos, as well as the section from Cement to Coca-Cola inward Sagamu in Sagamu.
He stated that vehicles travelling from Ikorodu toward Sagamu would be redirected through designated construction corridors under a counterflow traffic arrangement.
The federal controller noted that the reconstruction work is expected to last for three months, allowing contractors to complete the project and ensure proper curing of the rigid pavement.
Komolafe added that personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to control traffic and minimise disruptions during the construction period.
He appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with traffic officials and law enforcement agencies to ease movement around the affected corridors.
The ministry also expressed regret over the inconvenience the reconstruction exercise may cause commuters and residents using the highway.
