The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking of federal government-funded projects worth more than N1 billion across Osun State.

The exercise, which began in Osogbo on Wednesday, is expected to cover the three senatorial districts of the state – Osun Central, Osun East and Osun West.

The ICPC tracking team lead, Mary Oke, said the exercise was designed to determine whether public projects were being executed in line with approved specifications and whether government resources were delivering value for money.

Oke said the projects being monitored included road construction, solar-powered street lights, skill acquisition and empowerment programmes.

She added that the commission would also track grants provided to vulnerable groups, including widows, persons with disabilities and elderly citizens.

Other projects listed for monitoring include the construction of community halls and renovation of community libraries.

According to Oke, the exercise forms part of the ICPC’s constituency project tracking programme and is intended to strengthen accountability and transparency in the implementation of government-funded projects.

“The ICPC is in another phase of its constituency project tracking exercise in the state,” she said.

She explained that the exercise would involve assessing the status of various constituency projects to ensure that public resources were judiciously utilised to provide quality infrastructure and services to citizens.

Oke called on relevant stakeholders, particularly community members and civil society organisations, to cooperate with the commission by providing useful information that could assist the tracking process.

She also urged residents to protect completed government projects from vandalism, stressing that citizens have a responsibility to safeguard public facilities after their completion.

According to her, protecting public infrastructure would help ensure that communities continue to benefit from projects provided with taxpayers’ money.

The ICPC maintained that the tracking exercise would help promote value for money, accountability and transparency in the execution of public projects across Osun State.
