Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, days after securing re-election in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The visit marked Adeleke’s first meeting with the president since his victory in the poll.
Adeleke’s visit came shortly after Tinubu congratulated him on his electoral victory, describing the result as a reflection of the choice of Osun voters.
Tinubu had conveyed his congratulatory message in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
The president added that the election outcome demonstrated the people’s will and represented a positive development for Nigeria’s democratic process.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, praising what he described as the “courage and discipline” they displayed during the contest.
According to him, the participation of the various candidates contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while declaring the results on Sunday, announced that Adeleke won the election with 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 444,815 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
INEC said 1,005,800 votes were cast during the election, of which 985,079 were declared valid.
The commission also recorded 1,010,684 accredited voters.
A total of 15 political parties contested the governorship election.
Adeleke contested under the platform of the Accord party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December.
He had won his first term as governor on the PDP platform.
His re-election means Adeleke will continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term.
