Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement.
Badejo succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor has expired.
The statement described the new Vice-Chancellor as a professor of Guidance and Counselling, adding that she obtained both her PhD and Master of Education degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
“Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Professor BADEJO Ayodeji Olawumi (Nee Faji) as Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU),” Omotoso said.
Born on August 4, 1962, Badejo is expected to assume leadership of the university following the completion of Olatunji-Bello’s tenure.
Olatunji-Bello became LASU Vice-Chancellor in September 2021 and recently left office after five years.
During her final convocation address, the former Vice-Chancellor highlighted several achievements recorded under her administration, including improvements in academic accreditation and the university’s internally generated revenue.
She disclosed that LASU achieved a 96 per cent success rate in its first-year accreditation exercise, with 31 of the 37 programmes presented receiving full accreditation.
According to her, the university’s internally generated revenue also rose significantly from N3 billion to N13 billion during her tenure.
Olatunji-Bello further described her administration as one that transformed LASU into “the most subscribed university in Nigeria and the most digitally advanced among our peers.”
She said she was leaving behind “a university of proven excellence” after inheriting “a university of strong potential”.
Badejo will now take over the leadership of one of Nigeria’s major public universities as the institution begins a new administrative chapter.
