The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Taye Kasali, over the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali, in Bode-Osi, Osun State.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly killed his mother and buried her remains in a shallow grave on the family farm.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Ojelabi said the incident came to light after a report was made at the Bode-Osi Police Division on September 1, 2026, concerning the disappearance of Kudirat and her son.

He said police operatives subsequently commenced an investigation and arrested Taye on September 7 following intelligence gathered during the probe.

The PPRO said the suspect was interrogated and allegedly confessed to killing his mother.

According to the police statement, Taye claimed that his mother had repeatedly referred to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the family farmland, which he described as the family’s major source of livelihood.

The suspect allegedly told investigators that he killed his mother on August 31 by slitting her throat with a machete before burying her body in a shallow grave on the farm.

Following the alleged confession, Ojelabi said the suspect led police operatives to the location where the body had been buried.

The remains of the deceased were subsequently recovered from the shallow grave, while the machete allegedly used in the attack was also recovered, according to the command.

The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has directed a thorough investigation into the case.

The command said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation, while the police commissioner assured members of the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.

The police also urged residents to promptly report missing persons and suspicious activities to the authorities.

It called on members of the public to provide relevant information to the police and other security agencies whenever necessary, stressing that timely reporting could assist investigations and help prevent crime.
