The institution disclosed the development on Friday, May 1, via its official X handle, @LASUOfficial, describing the achievement as a testament to its rising profile in entrepreneurship and innovation.
The award recipient, Taiwo Goodness Ukwedje, a 300-level student of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the Epe Campus, was formally received by the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, at the university’s main campus in Ojo.
University authorities noted that Ukwedje’s success follows closely on the heels of a similar achievement by another student from the Lagos State University College of Medicine, who also secured a ₦50 million grant.
The back-to-back victories underscore LASU’s growing influence in nurturing innovative talent.
Officials revealed that the competition attracted over 30,000 applicants nationwide, making Ukwedje’s emergence particularly noteworthy.
They described him as a standout candidate who distinguished himself in a highly competitive selection process.
The student’s winning project, “D-Rentals”, is a digital housing platform aimed at tackling student accommodation fraud.
It is a solution designed to connect users with verified housing options, addressing a persistent challenge faced by students across the country.
Ukwedje disclosed that the platform is scheduled to launch in the next academic session.
Speaking during the reception, the vice-chancellor commended the student’s ingenuity, describing the achievement as clear evidence of the university’s commitment to innovation-driven education.
She urged him to utilise the grant judiciously and assured him of sustained institutional support.
Senior academics and officials from the Epe Campus and the Faculty of Engineering were present at the event, where they also praised the student’s accomplishment and the university’s training framework.
