The Ekiti State Police Command has denied recognising Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo as the authentic chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.
The Command described a social media publication claiming that Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, had endorsed Omolayo as the legitimate party chairman as false, baseless and misleading.
The clarification was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, and made available to journalists.
According to the police, the publication was purportedly issued by a faction of the ADC and misrepresented the outcome of a meeting held between the rival factions and the Commissioner of Police.
The Command explained that the two factions separately petitioned the Commissioner on August 25 and 26, 2026, over disputes concerning the party’s leadership and the alleged illegal occupation of its secretariat.
One faction is led by Omolayo, while the other is led by Bamidele Ekunola.
The police said both factions were subsequently invited through the State Intelligence Department (SID) to a meeting with the Commissioner on Monday, August 31, as part of efforts to prevent the dispute from escalating.
“During the meeting, the Commissioner of Police listened to the submissions of both parties and advised them to maintain peace, refrain from actions capable of disrupting public order, and seek appropriate legal redress through the courts where necessary,” the statement said.
The Command added that both factions expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and agreed to consult their respective state and national leaderships with a view to finding an amicable solution.
It further said representatives of the two factions signed written undertakings committing themselves to maintaining peace and exploring appropriate channels for resolving the dispute.
The police said it was therefore “shocking and highly regrettable” that a publication subsequently emerged claiming that the Commissioner had recognised one faction as the authentic leadership of the ADC in Ekiti.
The Command stressed that the Commissioner did not recognise, endorse, affirm or declare either faction of the ADC, or any other political party, as authentic or legitimate.
It reiterated its commitment to remaining apolitical, impartial, professional and neutral in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
The police also warned political actors and other members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of creating confusion, tension or unnecessary apprehension in Ekiti State.
The Command urged the public to disregard the publication, describing it as false and without factual basis.
