The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West zone has refuted claims that it endorsed the administration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led National Working Committee (NWC).
In a statement released Monday, PDP South-West Zonal Publicity Secretary Akinloye Oyeniyi dismissed reports alleging the zone condemned former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, describing such claims as “false and misleading”.
The denial comes amid a deepening internal crisis within the party, which is currently split into two primary factions.
One bloc, led by Turaki, receives support from Governor Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.
The opposing faction, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, is backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose.
Both groups are currently engaged in ongoing legal battles to determine party control.
Oyeniyi clarified that the recent press conference in Ibadan, which allegedly praised Makinde and condemned Fayose, was orchestrated by “organised impostors”.
“The Zonal Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty, was away in Abuja attending the 108th meeting of the National Executive Committee, and no zonal officials held any press conference,” Oyeniyi stated.
He added that the group behind the Ibadan gathering lacks a mandate and is not recognised by any PDP organ.
The spokesperson further argued that the group’s illegitimacy is evident, noting they lack a zonal vice chairman—a fundamental requirement for any legitimate regional structure.
Reaffirming its position, the South-West leadership declared its unwavering loyalty to the Abdulrahman-led NWC and Nyesom Wike.
The zone urged the public and the media to disregard the “media stunts” of the impostors, maintaining that official communications will only be issued through recognised channels under Engr. Deji Doherty.
