Aderemi Oseni, the lawmaker representing the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, has officially declared his intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat during the 2027 general elections.
Oseni announced his aspiration during a high-level meeting with the Ibarapa APC Elders’ and Leaders’ Forum over the weekend.
The meeting, held at the party secretariat in Eruwa, included influential stakeholders from the G9 and the expanded G64 caucus, representing Ibarapa East, Central, and North local government areas.
In a statement released Monday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, Oseni expressed gratitude to the forum for its confidence in his leadership.
He emphasised that his ambition is rooted in a desire to expand his existing record of grassroots-oriented governance.
“This aspiration is not built on mere rhetoric, but on the continuity and expansion of a proven track record of quality representation,” Oseni said.
He further described the bid as a “sacred responsibility” to intensify development and ensure inclusive governance for the district.
Beyond his legislative ambitions, Oseni called on regional leaders to mobilise support to help President Bola Tinubu secure one million votes in the forthcoming elections.
The lawmaker received strong endorsements from party stalwarts during the meeting.
Chief Michael Morawo of Ibarapa East praised Oseni for stabilising the party structure, while Chief Theophilus Adenrele of Ibarapa Central commended his consistency.
Dismissing rumours of potential defection, Chief Francis Babalola of Ibarapa North described Oseni as a humble leader committed to progressive ideals.
Forum Chairman Chief Timothy Jolaoso noted that Oseni possesses the public trust and financial strength necessary for the role.
He highlighted Oseni’s competence, citing his current performance in the House of Representatives and his leadership as chairman of the FERMA Committee.
