The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged shooting of popular Nigerian skit maker and social media influencer, Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggy, during a filming session in the Sango-Ota area.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon while the entertainer was recording a comedy skit beneath the Sango-Ota bridge. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear.
A police source who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to discuss the matter disclosed that the comedian sustained a gunshot injury during the filming.
Despite the reports, the Ogun State Police Command said it could not yet confirm whether the incident actually occurred within its jurisdiction.
In a statement issued to the media on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information while authorities continue their investigation.
“For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggy was shot anywhere within Ogun State. Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced,” Babaseyi said.
“Members of the public are kindly advised to refrain from spreading unverified information and allow the investigation to run its course.”
Further inquiries revealed that the victim’s team had not officially reported the incident to the police since it reportedly occurred.
A source familiar with the development explained that immediately after the incident, Broda Shaggy was rushed to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State, where medical personnel administered initial treatment.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We still don’t know exactly how it happened, but his crew members quickly took him to the hospital,” the source said.
Medical workers at the facility reportedly stabilised him before referring him to Duchess Hospital located in the Government Residential Area (GRA) of Ikeja, Lagos, where he is currently receiving further care and recuperating.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the police were alerted by a hospital that had admitted a gunshot victim.
According to her, detectives and a patrol team were immediately dispatched to the hospital, where they discovered that the injured individual was the popular comedian.
“He was seen on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. The location of the incident is in Sango-Ota and not within our jurisdiction, but the investigation is ongoing,” Adebisi said.
Attempts to obtain a reaction from Broda Shaggy’s management were unsuccessful.
