The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial burglar, Nasiru Abiodun, over alleged break-ins at four residential apartments in the Ejiooku/Iyana Offa area of Ibadan, with stolen property valued at ₦16.22 million traced to the incidents.
Abiodun was arrested at about 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after concerned residents of Oyewole Zone 2, Ile-Igbon, alerted operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Maku Base.
According to the police, operatives acting on the report apprehended the suspect at a residential apartment with a sack containing house cables and other valuables estimated at ₦3 million.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a statement issued on Sunday that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to burgling four different residential apartments in the area.
Items allegedly stolen during the operations included house cables, mobile phones, motorcycle batteries and other household valuables.
The Command said the total estimated value of property stolen in the four identified incidents was ₦16.22 million, adding that some of the items had already been recovered from the suspect.
Following the alleged confession, VCRU operatives visited the identified crime scenes to establish relevant facts and advance the investigation.
Police said efforts had also been intensified to recover the remaining stolen property and apprehend individuals suspected of receiving the items.
The Command appealed to residents of Ejiooku/Iyana Offa, Ile-Igbon and adjoining communities whose homes may have been burgled recently to report such incidents to the nearest police station or the Maku Base of the VCRU.
It said such reports could help investigators establish whether other unreported burglary cases were linked to the suspect and facilitate the recovery of additional stolen property.
Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminality through proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with members of the public.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist the police in preventing and detecting criminal activities.
The police also urged residents requiring emergency assistance to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on 615 or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
