A fire outbreak on Monday disrupted activities in the Abule Egba area of Lagos State after a recycling site, a residential building and a church were affected by flames.

According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the incident occurred at No. 15, Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba. The agency said it received a distress call at about 1:08 p.m., prompting an immediate emergency response.

In a statement posted on X, the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighting crews from the Agege and Abesan fire stations were swiftly mobilised and deployed to the scene.

Preliminary findings revealed that the fire originated from an open space being used for local recycling activities before spreading to a nearby bungalow and subsequently a church building.

“One adult female suffered shock at the scene and was promptly stabilised by emergency responders. No fatality was recorded,” Ms Adeseye said.

She added that firefighters successfully brought the fire under control, preventing further damage to surrounding properties, while investigations were ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.

The fire service reiterated its call for residents to strictly comply with fire safety regulations, stressing its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The Abule Egba incident adds to a series of recurring fire outbreaks in parts of Lagos State, particularly within densely populated residential and commercial corridors.

Authorities have repeatedly raised concerns over unsafe electrical connections, poor handling of flammable materials and inadequate adherence to fire prevention standards.

In recent months, frequent fires in major markets and residential areas have renewed calls for stronger enforcement of safety regulations and increased public awareness to mitigate avoidable fire disasters in the state.
