The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria has endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made by members of the association on Thursday during a meeting held at Mayfair Hall in Alausa, Lagos.

Speaking at the event, the association’s national president, Olugbenga Adebola, stated that the endorsement aligns with the leadership philosophy of their grand patron, Bola Tinubu, who has consistently advocated for experienced and capable governance in Lagos State.

Adebola described Hamzat as a seasoned technocrat and administrator with an extensive track record in public service.

He highlighted Hamzat’s history of holding key roles across multiple state administrations, including his previous terms as Commissioner for Science and Technology and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under the leadership of both Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola.

According to Adebola, the deputy governor played a pivotal role in advancing the technological and infrastructural development of the state during those tenures.

Currently serving as Deputy Governor under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat has continued to influence the state through significant contributions to policy formulation and implementation.

“He has shown capacity, competence, and tenacity in every office he has occupied. His contributions to project development and governance have been instrumental to the successes recorded under different administrations,” Adebola said.

The association further characterised Hamzat as a responsive, humble leader possessing strong technical expertise.

They urged their members and the general public to support his gubernatorial ambitions, expressing confidence that his integrity and vision make him a formidable contender for the state’s highest office.

Hamzat has continued to receive endorsement from political heavyweights in the state, including President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and State House Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, among several others.
