The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disowned a viral notice announcing a purported special window for corps members seeking redeployment, describing the message as fake.
The scheme issued the disclaimer on Friday via its verified X handle, @officialnyscng, after the notice began circulating among corps members and the public.
Styled as an “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” the fraudulent message was addressed to “Parents/Guardians” and claimed that a redeployment window had been opened because of “issues of National Security, Health, and State of the Nation.”
It urged corps members with what it described as “genuine grounds” to apply promptly to ensure their safety, proper placement and timely completion of their national service.
The notice also provided two telephone numbers and directed those seeking assistance to contact the numbers “ASAP”.
It further claimed that applicants would need valid documents and that all requests would be processed in line with NYSC guidelines.
However, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters rejected the message, tagging it “Disclaimer” on its verified X account and overlaying the notice with a prominent “FAKE NEWS” watermark.
The scheme did not disclose the identities of the individuals responsible for producing or circulating the fraudulent notice as of the time of filing this report.
The latest incident comes amid repeated attempts by fraudsters to exploit the NYSC deployment and redeployment process to defraud corps members and their families.
The NYSC, under its Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, has repeatedly cautioned corps members against dealing with unofficial agents or individuals claiming to facilitate deployment and redeployment.
The scheme has maintained that deployment and redeployment-related processes are handled through its authorised channels, including its official portal and designated NYSC offices.
Corps members and members of the public have therefore been advised to verify any message or notice purportedly issued by the NYSC through its official website and verified social media platforms before taking action or making payments.
The warning is particularly important as fraudulent notices can be used to obtain money or personal information from unsuspecting corps members under the guise of helping them secure redeployment.
