Senator Sharafadeen Ali of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.

Representing the Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ali pledged to prioritise local government autonomy to drive development at the grassroots level.

During the declaration, held in Ibadan on Friday, Ali emphasised that his political journey is motivated by a quest for meaningful impact rather than mere titles.

He promised to transform governance into a system that truly belongs to the people, ensuring that policy decisions result in tangible improvements for ordinary citizens.

The senator outlined a comprehensive agenda for his potential administration, identifying youth development, agriculture, security, reliable power supply, and quality healthcare as key priorities.

He also called for a radical overhaul of the state’s education sector, advocating for schools to become “homes of innovation” rather than just traditional classrooms.

Ali highlighted his extensive administrative experience as evidence of his readiness to lead.

His track record includes serving as a local government chairman, secretary to the Oyo State Government, chief of staff to Governor Rashidi Ladoja, and chairman of Oodua Investment.

“As local government chairman, we brought government closer to the people… As senator, I have continued to raise my voice, not for myself but for our people,” Ali stated.

Supporting his bid, APC chieftain Yemi Aderibigbe described Ali as a humble and accessible leader with the proven capacity to govern effectively.

The declaration event was attended by various political stakeholders, including members of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
