The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council has paid a condolence visit to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) following the sudden death of newscaster Bukola Akintade.
A delegation led by NUJ Oyo State Chairman Akeem Abas met with BCOS management to express sympathy over the loss, which Abas described as a painful shock to the state’s journalism profession.
Akintade, a prominent voice at BCOS and the former treasurer of the NUJ BCOS Chapel, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026.
During the visit, Abas presented a formal condolence letter to the Chairman of BCOS, Dotun Olaitan.
He paid tribute to Akintade’s professionalism, describing her as a dedicated journalist and a “voice of truth” whose contributions left an enduring impact on the media industry.
Responding to the visit, Olaitan described Akintade as a lively, peace-loving, and dutiful staff member.
She expressed shock at the untimely passing and used the occasion to urge journalists to prioritise their health to ensure long-term service.
The NUJ delegation included Secretary Temidayo Adu, Treasurer Moses Morenikeji, Ex-Officio Khalid Imran, and executives from the BCOS Chapel.
Following the meeting with management, the team visited the director of news and current affairs, Bunmi Oyedemi, and the newsroom staff to commiserate with her colleagues.
