The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Khan Salihu, who passed away on Monday after a brief illness.

According to reports, the senior police officer had returned from the mosque and complained of feeling fatigued while at work at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

He subsequently sought permission to leave the office and rest at home.

Sources said Salihu was later rushed to a hospital from his residence where he died.

Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, described the death as a painful loss to the police family and the Lagos State Command.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, Adebisi said Salihu passed away on June 15, 2026, while serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration.

“The Lagos State Police Command deeply regrets to announce the passing of Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Khan Salihu, who until his demise was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Lagos State Police Command,” the statement said.

The command praised the late officer’s years of service, noting that he distinguished himself through professionalism, discipline, loyalty and integrity throughout his career in the Nigeria Police Force.

Adebisi stated that Salihu’s administrative expertise and leadership qualities contributed significantly to the efficient management and operations of the Lagos State Police Command.

“Throughout his distinguished career, DCP Khan Salihu exemplified diligence, exemplary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to duty. His wealth of experience, administrative acumen, and invaluable contributions greatly enhanced the effective management and operational efficiency of the Lagos State Police Command,” the spokesperson said.

The command further noted that news of his death came as a shock to officers and personnel, who regarded him as a dedicated and dependable leader.

On behalf of the command, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, extended condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and associates.

“The news of his demise came as a profound shock and a painful loss to the officers and men of the Command. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, on behalf of the entire officers and men of the Command, extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” the statement added.

The command said Salihu would be remembered for his humility, professionalism and selfless service to the nation, adding that his legacy would continue to inspire officers and men of the force.
