The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Lawal, has expressed sympathy to traders and residents affected by the fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
Lawal, in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, described the incident as a tragic setback for traders who lost their goods and sources of livelihood in the inferno.
He assured the victims that the Oyo State Government would support them through the difficult period, saying emergency response teams had been deployed to assess the extent of the damage.
According to him, the government is also putting immediate relief measures in place for those affected by the fire.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Oyo State, I extend heartfelt sympathy to all affected traders, their families, and the entire Oranyan Market community. We share in your pain and stand with you in this difficult time,” Lawal said.
The acting governor said the government would go beyond immediate assistance by working towards restoring the affected market and introducing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He said the administration was working with relevant emergency agencies to determine the extent of the destruction and provide necessary support to victims.
Lawal also commended the Oyo State Fire Service and other security agencies for their swift response to the emergency.
He urged traders and residents to remain calm and hopeful, assuring them of the government’s commitment to addressing the impact of the incident.
The fire at Oranyan Market has disrupted the businesses and livelihoods of traders in the area, with the government now assessing the extent of the losses.
