The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has endorsed the appointment of veteran broadcast journalist, Otunba Babatunde Tiamiyu, as the new General Manager of Ayekooto 88.3 FM, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen the station’s position in the competitive broadcasting industry.
The royal endorsement came during a courtesy visit by Tiamiyu to the Oluwo’s palace in Iwo, where he sought the monarch’s blessings ahead of formally assuming leadership of the privately owned commercial radio station serving Iwo and communities across Osun West Senatorial District.
Welcoming the new General Manager to Iwoland, Oba Akanbi described Tiamiyu as an experienced media professional with the competence and industry knowledge needed to take Ayekooto FM to greater heights despite the growing competition within Nigeria’s broadcast sector.
The monarch assured Tiamiyu of his full personal and royal support, promising to create a conducive environment that would enable the station to thrive during his tenure.
Oba Akanbi also urged the broadcaster to deploy the influence of the media to foster peace, unity and sustainable development in Iwoland, Osun State and the country as a whole.
Earlier, Tiamiyu explained that his visit to the palace was to pay homage and receive royal blessings before settling into his new role.
Quoting the Yoruba proverb, “Ajeji kii wo’lu, ki onilu ma mo”—meaning that no stranger enters a community without the knowledge of its custodian—he said it was important to formally identify with the traditional institution before commencing his assignment.
The new general manager pledged to maintain a close working relationship with the Oluwo and residents of the community, while promising to use Ayekooto 88.3 FM as a platform to promote development across Iwoland.
He said the station would continue to contribute to the socio-economic growth of the area by supporting initiatives that complement the developmental achievements recorded during the reign of Oba Akanbi.
The visit ended with a special prayer session led by the Oluwo, who prayed for the success of Ayekooto FM under its new leadership.
The monarch also charged Tiamiyu to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and media ethics in both the administrative and editorial management of the station.
