The Ogun State Executive Council has approved a fresh round of infrastructure and governance projects, including the construction of 450 housing units, the rebuilding of the Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, new residential quarters for lawmakers, extensive road rehabilitation and the upgrading of several traditional stools.
The approvals, announced on Sunday by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, are aimed at accelerating infrastructure development, improving public institutions and preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
According to Akinmade, the council approved the construction of 450 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with supporting infrastructure as part of the state’s affordable housing programme.
The government also gave the green light for the construction of 28 official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly and 28 duplexes for sale at the Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA) Scheme II.
The Executive Council further approved the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge located in Asokoro, Abuja.
Akinmade explained that the housing projects are expected to expand access to quality accommodation, stimulate economic activities and attract greater private investment into the state’s property sector.
He added that the planned duplexes at Ibara GRA Scheme II would enhance the estate’s value while strengthening Ogun State’s appeal as a destination for residential and commercial investments.
The council also approved the reconstruction of several strategic roads across the state’s three senatorial districts to improve transportation, facilitate economic growth and enhance access to communities.
The approved road projects include the reconstruction of the Okun-Owa–Ijebu-Ode Road in Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode Local Government Areas; the 19.05-kilometre Ago-Iwoye–Ijebu-Igbo–Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road in Ijebu North Local Government Area; Phase One of the 5.5-kilometre Odeda-Olugbo Road in Odeda Local Government Area; the 3.6-kilometre Ayobo (Mopol Junction)–Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area; and the Agbala Road in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area.
According to Akinmade, the projects are designed to reduce travel time, improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and industrial centres, while promoting socio-economic development across the state.
He said the reconstruction of the Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge would provide a more conducive environment for governance, safeguard government assets and ensure continuity for future administrations.
Akinmade noted that the projects align with Governor Abiodun’s policy of replacing ageing public infrastructure with modern and durable facilities capable of meeting the state’s growing demands.
He disclosed that many public buildings inherited by the current administration were more than five decades old and had deteriorated beyond economical rehabilitation, making reconstruction a more practical option.
“Their reconstruction forms part of the government’s broader urban regeneration programme, which has already transformed numerous ageing and derelict public structures into modern facilities across the state,” he said.
The Executive Council also approved a number of traditional institution reforms, including the upgrading of the Akoko of Tongeji Island to a recognised chieftaincy, the recognition of the Onitafin of Orile Itafin as a recognised chieftaincy and the appointment of the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo into a recognised chieftaincy.
In addition, the council approved the creation and upgrading of several coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Traditional Councils.
Akinmade said the chieftaincy decisions reflect the administration’s commitment to preserving Ogun State’s rich cultural heritage while strengthening traditional institutions.
He maintained that the approvals collectively reinforce Governor Abiodun’s commitment to sustained infrastructure development, institutional reforms and inclusive socio-economic growth across the state.
