The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community was thrown into mourning on Thursday following the sudden death of Oreoluwa Emmanuel Adewole, a Part IV student in the College of Health Sciences.
According to a statement by the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, Adewole passed away during a clinical viva examination after reportedly complaining of chest pain.
Olarewaju stated that lecturers and fellow medical students present at the scene immediately attempted to provide medical assistance.
However, despite these prompt efforts to revive him, Adewole could not be saved.
Olarewaju noted that the tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the campus community.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire, speaking on behalf of the University Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students, extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family.
He also offered commiseration to the friends, colleagues, and members of the College of Health Sciences facing this “painful and irreparable loss.”
The university management is currently engaging with relevant authorities and the Adewole family to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide necessary support.
