Prominent Nollywood actors have rallied support for veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following an emotional appeal by his daughters for urgent medical assistance as he battles stage-four cancer.

Actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo on Monday called on members of the public to help the family connect with medical professionals and advanced treatment facilities capable of reviewing Hassan’s medical records and recommending possible treatment options.

In a post on X, Adebayo said the family was not seeking financial donations but urgently needed expert medical guidance.

“Please let’s rally around our beloved Sir Taiwo Hassan, who is currently facing a serious health challenge battling cancer,” he wrote.

According to him, the family needs recommendations for reputable hospitals, oncology specialists and advanced cancer treatment centres, whether in Nigeria or abroad, where Hassan’s medical records could be reviewed and further treatment options explored.

“As shared by his family, they are NOT looking for money or financial support. What they urgently need is medical direction,” Adebayo said.

He also appealed to people with connections within the oncology and medical communities to reach out to Hassan’s family.

“If you know someone who knows someone in the oncology space, or a medical avenue that can assist please help reach out to his family immediately,” he added.

Adebayo urged Nigerians to circulate the appeal widely to increase the chances of reaching specialists or medical institutions that could offer assistance.

On Tuesday, actress Toyin Abraham also joined the campaign after sharing a video featuring Hassan’s daughters on Instagram.

Appealing to people who could assist, Abraham asked them to contact either of the actor’s daughters or reach out to her directly.

The actors’ interventions followed separate emotional appeals made by Hassan’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, on Instagram on Monday.

The daughters disclosed that their father was battling stage-four cancer and appealed to Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with expertise in cancer treatment to help identify a specialist or medical facility willing to take up his case.

Lima said her father’s condition had deteriorated and that some hospitals had declined to continue treating him.

Kira, meanwhile, said the actor could no longer undergo chemotherapy at his current hospital.

Both daughters emphasised that the family was not asking for financial assistance, but for medical intervention that could provide their father with another opportunity to fight the disease.

Hassan, 66, is one of the established figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba film industry.

His acting career spans more than four decades, during which he has appeared in more than 300 films and earned recognition as one of the prominent faces of Yoruba cinema.

The family’s appeal has since triggered an outpouring of support from colleagues and members of the public, with calls for medical experts and treatment facilities capable of reviewing the veteran actor’s case to come forward.
