The Nigerian Army has warned the public against unauthorised content on its official X account after an attempted cyber breach was detected on Saturday.
The Army said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. and was being treated as a cybersecurity breach.
Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Anele, immediate technical and protective measures had been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
“The Nigerian Army assures members of the public, the media and other stakeholders that appropriate measures are underway to fully secure the affected account,” she said.
The Army spokesperson urged members of the public and the media to disregard any suspicious, misleading, unauthorised or unverified content published through the affected account.
She stressed that such posts should not be regarded as the official position of the Nigerian Army.
Anele also advised the public and media organisations to verify information through the Army’s other official communication channels pending the resolution of the incident.
She said the Nigerian Army remained committed to maintaining information integrity, operational security and responsible strategic communication.
Anele thanked the public for its vigilance, understanding and cooperation, adding that further updates would be issued as necessary.
