Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election following the completion of the party’s presidential nomination process.

Makinde was also presented with the party’s Certificate of Return and official flag during the presidential primary election and unveiling ceremony held at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, presented the certificate and party flag to the governor in the presence of party delegates and stakeholders drawn from across the country.

Before handing over the flag, Dantalle invited the 36 state chairmen of the party to openly affirm Makinde’s candidacy through a voice vote, which received overwhelming support from the delegates at the venue.

Addressing the gathering, the APM national chairman said Makinde earned the endorsement of the party due to his political pedigree and his record of governance in Oyo State over the past seven years.

Dantalle described the event as the formal unveiling of what he termed the “Reset Nigerian Movement,” noting that Makinde’s emergence followed what he characterised as a peaceful presidential primary conducted by the party.

According to him, the development symbolised a fresh political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM, backed by Nigerians seeking a more inclusive, equitable and prosperous country.

Presenting the party flag to the governor, Dantalle described Makinde as a seasoned political figure whose administration in Oyo State had demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of citizens.

He added that the governor’s candidacy marked the beginning of what he described as a political journey to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The APM chairman further argued that the party’s decision was driven by growing concerns over the country’s socio-economic and political situation, insisting that Nigeria’s future must be redirected towards equity, dignity and national prosperity.
