Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has dissolved boards, commissions and parastatals and terminated the appointments of political aides as his administration prepares for a second-term inauguration on October 16, 2026.
Affected officials include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Yinka Oyebode, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media.
Oyebode said the decision was necessary as the governor’s first term gradually winds down ahead of the inauguration of his second term.
However, the dissolution does not affect all statutory institutions and government officials, as several categories of appointments have been exempted.
Statutory commissions, university councils exempted
According to the statement, chairmen and members of the following statutory commissions will retain their positions:
State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC)
Civil Service Commission
House of Assembly Service Commission
Judicial Service Commission
Governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain intact, in accordance with earlier directives issued by the governor.
Oyebode explained that the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission would equally remain in office.
However, their respective boards have been dissolved as part of the latest administrative decision.
Directors-General, technical advisers retained
Directors-General and Technical Advisers to the governor are also exempted from the termination of appointments.
The exemptions mean that while the government has dissolved several boards and ended the appointments of political aides, some officials and institutional leadership structures will continue in their positions.
Oyebode did not provide details of any new appointments or indicate when replacements for the dissolved boards and affected political aides would be announced.
Oyebanji thanks outgoing appointees
The governor expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to Ekiti State.
He also wished them success in their future endeavours.
The latest decision comes ahead of the commencement of Oyebanji’s second term, with the October 16 inauguration marking the beginning of another four-year administration.
